Videos: Slingshots vs. the Undead
Vampire Hunter Slingshot |
What is your weapon of choice in the event of a zombie attack? The traditional shotgun? Genetically modified plants? Your own severed arm? Well, if you happen to be Joerg Sprave there's only one choice...A SLINGSHOT! Sprave's hobby is making and testing slingshots and he makes an array of videos on the subject for his YouTube channel, with help from his wife (and the occasional zombie).
In addition to his serious testing videos, Sprave occasionally makes more humorous creations too such as the Guillotine and Zombie Brain Smashing slingshots (for zombies) and a vampire hunting stake slingshot.

Animation: Classic Trick and Treating
With Halloween fast approaching, I wanted to share three video clips that represent a older, more classic view of the mischievous holiday.
Let's start with a classic Disney video from the 20's.
This clip is tremendously charming, holding quite a bit of black humor. The children's classic cartoon company really went all out creative to represent "Comical death."
A very amusing clip, also from Disney. The music and lyrics are probably the best thing on the clip; very childish indeed, but surely any halloween-loving adult may enjoy!
Lastly, a short clip titled Season Greetings by Mike Dougherty. Sam goes out trick or treating, and the essence of the holiday, and it's traditions, are represented in Sam, a little "boy" who loves the holiday.

Videos: Trick 'r treat; the lore and legends of Halloween
Part 2
As that special night of the year when all things ghoulish break loose approaches, the "making of "trick 'r Treat" is out for fans that did not get the Blue-ray copy of the film.
Trick 'r Treat is a movie about the spirit of Halloween, personified by a mischievous little boy who lurks around, making sure you follow the rules of such marvelous holiday.
As David J. Skal (author of Death Makes a Holiday: a Cultural History of Halloween) brilliantly states, "Halloween is the Frankenstein of holidays... because it's stitched together from so many different traditions that's sometimes a little difficult to keep them all apart.
With interview of Director Michael Dougherty and cast, they elaborate on the traditions of the holiday, and how why it just might be a good idea to stay true to them.
