Art: Rouble Rust

Last month, I won a prize from the lovely Bethezda's Etsy's store, and this month, I have once again been lucky and won another giveaway! This time, dark fantasy artist Rouble Rust was very kind and ran a competition for one of her GothLoli necklaces (pictured above and below).

The package arrived less than a week after I gave Rouble my address, and inside there was a small, black velvet pouch containing the necklace. There was also an envelope, but I'll come to that in a moment. Anyway, the quality of the chain and pendant are fabulous and also, it's quite a bit heavier than I was expecting it to be, which is definitely a positive thing. It's stunning and the details of the painting can be seen extremely clearly in person - you'll have to excuse my rubbish photography. 

.Now, onto the envelope...it contained an art print postcard of her piece Cup of Blood and that was a fantastic little bonus to get as well!

Hello there my spooky kids!

Today I want to show you Anton Semenov's work.

Better known as Gloom82 (his deviantart account, you can find it here), this artist from Russia brings us a surrealistic, horror view of the world. His work is pretty impressive in my opinion, and the dark, macabre aura surrounding it catches you from the first glimpse!

The auction site Etsy and the stores it contains are always full of gorgeous, bizarre and unusual things that are largely one of a kind or at least hand-crafted. This entry is about one such store, The Underground Market, which is run by the artist/crafter Zoe Black.

The Underground Market sells original dolls/figures, jewelry and paintings in a largely adorable and spooky style.  Even though the works do fit into the 'creepy cute' genre, they're also quite unique at the same time, making them ideal for collectors or as gifts. The tiny painted details and embellishments further add to the charm of each item and you can even request custom made pieces as well.

Art: Mark Ryden

Hey there little monsters!

Today I dedicate my entry to one of my favourite artists of all time: Mark Ryden. I'm sure some of you already know about this American painter, since his work is pretty famous all over the world, even if the portraits he creates are full of spooky and macabre scenes. At first you may notice innocence and cuteness on his art, but just take a closer look at it and you will see macabre and disturbing things all over the painting.

I found about him for the first time by chance and it caused a big impression on me. On the painting, there was this little girl next to her bunny... but the bunny was cut in half and bleeding all over the floor. The expression on the little girl's face was so... apathetic and that made it even more impressive.

Since then, I started researching more and more about this painter and his art and I've became a fervent fan! The vast amount of details on each painting, all the feelings you get just by looking at them, the enormous imagination put into all of these portraits. I could literally spend the day enumerating the reasons why Mark Ryden is such a great artist for me.

 

Even if this art may seem like niche art, Ryden is quite famous, admired and respected, and lots of celebrities have openly declared their admiration for his art. Some of them have even worked with him, like, for example, Michael Jackson, who hired Ryden to design one of his CD jackets.

Michael Jackson was not the only one; people as Ringo Starr, Oingo Boingo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfers or Jack Off Jill have worked with Ryden too. There's many other people who fervently admire and buy Ryden's paintings; just to name a few... Robert De Niro, Björk, Bridget Fonda, Christina Ricci and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The subject of this post is Andreas Waldschuetz - a talented fashion and art photographer/filmaker from Vienna, Austria. As well as woking in Vienna, Waldschuetz has also traveled a great deal, which often is reflected in his photographs, and he has carried out projects in video and photography in various places around the world including: the US, UK, France, Germany and South Africa.

Not all of Waldschuetz's work is dark and spooky and the fact that it doesn't not adhere to one specific theme makes it more interesting.  However, he does create some beautifully macabre and strange images and I'm going to post some for you to enjoy here.

If you don't like portrait or fashion photography or heavily edited art images, his productions may not be for you. However, personally I find them to be well-planned, skillfully shot and very creative, and the stories behind each collection of visuals are also intruiging.

Art: Mia Mäkilä

Swedish, self-professed 'low-brow horror artist', Mia Mäkilä, uses a variety of techniques, styles and mediums to create her strangely wonderful art. Whilst some of her work does seem to draw heavily from Hieronymous Bosch, Mäkilä also has a distinctively dark and sometimes comical style of her own as well.

Creepy, bizarre and unnerving. What more could you ask for!

Art: Joseph Lara

This portrait of Elsa Lanchester in the 1930's James Whale classic, 'The Bride of Frankenstein', is the latest creation from aspiring New York music journalist and horror artist, Joseph Lara. With a love of all things spooky from childhood, and a background in painting, Lara naturally began combining the two.
