Art: Ash Lethal

Ash Lethal
Ash Lethal, the alter ego of Georgia-based artist and designer Ashleigh Fedo, utilises a quirky combination of vivid colours, patterned backgrounds and strong, flowing lines to depict a large array of unusual and fascinating characters in her distinctive creepy-cute style.

'Listen to Your Heart'
The self-taught artist began her creative career in 2007, and has since gone onto exhibit work at events such as 'Bedtime Stories & Nursery Rhymes' at The East Atlanta Tattoo Gallery in 2008, 'Go Green! (Surfrider Foundation fundraiser) at The Doogallery in 2009, 'Mirror Mirror' (group show) at Jack Art Gallery and 'Supernatural Circus' at the ABV Gallery in 2010 and many more.

'Nature of the Experiment'

Lethal also began her art blog, which features her recent works and projects, last year. The blog shows some initial sketches, as well as many finished artworks in addition to giving more information about the origin of each piece, some of  which are not even currently available on her other websites or Etsy store.

'Nocturnal Torment'

'Bear Claws'

As well as her other work, Lethal also takes on art and design comissions from musicians, private clients, businesses and other organisations. Home & Garden: Budget Halloween Decor

This charming crocheted table adornment (left)  and devilish Dead Fairy decoration (right) would be ideal for everyday use, or even Halloween parties. The doilie first appeared on Lipstick and Laundry and the decoration is by user Varifiresis on on the Craftster.org forumDollar Store Crafts also gave tips on how to make them, both, although the Dead Fairy guide on Craftster is very thorough. Whilst you're on the Dollar Store Crafts site, you might also want to check out the guide on how to make a styrofoam spider and post on spooky Halloween decor.

Thanks to Kei for sending the Dollar Store Crafts link to me!

Theme Parks & Haunted Houses: Kunz Geister-Schloss

The delightfully cheesy and colourful picture above features Munich, Germany's Kunz Geister-Schloss (Kunz Haunted Castle). I've watched a few videos of it, which look absolutely amazing! You walk through parts of it and sit in a ghost train for others, whilst the "castle" does its best to scare you with a combination of animatronics, actors, props, lighting and sound. Next time I 'm in Germany, I need to visit this place!

Art: Mia Mäkilä

Swedish, self-professed 'low-brow horror artist', Mia Mäkilä, uses a variety of techniques, styles and mediums to create her strangely wonderful art. Whilst some of her work does seem to draw heavily from Hieronymous Bosch, Mäkilä also has a distinctively dark and sometimes comical style of her own as well.

Creepy, bizarre and unnerving. What more could you ask for!

Toys: Living Dead Dolls - Rose & Violet

Mezco have announced the release of their newest Living Dead Dolls, the adorable Rose & Violet!
“Roses are red, Violets are blue…a single soul, slashed in two”. This classic poem of love now personified with two newest editions to the Living Dead Doll’s family: Rose and Violet. Dressed in elaborate 1940’s period dresses with hair bows, each is a mirror image of the other. Rose, dressed in red, Violet in blue. Each doll is sold separately and includes a unique charm that can be worn; combine both charms to create a symbol of star-crossed love. Packed in special edition coffins with death certificates. Ships late January 2010. NOTE: Each doll is packed in her own individual coffin. With this set you get 2 coffins, each with 1 doll.

I'm well aware that not everyone thinks highly of Living Dead Dolls, but I don't care, because I love them, and these two certainly make a lovely set. Roll on January!

Art: Junko Mizuno

Japanese artist Junko Mizuno debuted in 1996 but first gained attention in 1998 with her 'Pure Trance' manga series, and has since made a name for herself as an artist and illustrator. Inspired by shoujo manga (girls' comics), many of her works combine cute, sexy (and happy) female characters with gory scenes, monsters or grotesque situations. The result is really effective and original and I love it! Her more recent art has been less horror-influenced, but it's still interesting. Of course, her style won't be for everyone though, as it's quite cutesy and cartoonish, but to me, it's fantastic!
