Games: Alice: Madness Returns

The long-awaited sequel to the 2000, horror game 'American McGee's Alice', has finally been released! The new game, 'Alice: Madness Returns', comes much to the delight of expectant fans of the original and continues the plot of its predecessor's twisted version of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.  McGee's studio, Spicy Horse, created the game and partnered with EA in order to release it last month.

The sequel takes place directly after the initial story, with Alice now living at an orphanage in Victorian London under the care of a psychiatrist, after having been released from Rutledge Asylum for the Wayward and Lost Souls. However, Alice is still troubled by her splintered memories of the past and when she begins to have hallucinations, she must once again venture into the strange and violent world known as Wonderland. And that is when the bloody fun begins! (I won't give too much away in this post, as a review will be coming at a later date, but I'll include lots of lovely screenshots after the cut, as compensation...and I mean A LOT.)

Whilst you might be thinking "oh, not another Alice-themed plot!", you have to remember that the original game came out nearly 11 years ago, before the current flurry of bizarre / creepy Wonderland re-imaginings existed. Though, of course, I'm not suggesting that it was the only, or even the first, to take Carroll's version of the story and change it into something even weirder and darker than his original. I am, however, suggesting that you shouldn't be put off if you happen to be bored with Wonderland at the moment.
